Ohio State lost a highly productive quarterback in Will Howard this past offseason, but Ryan Day had a worthy successor in Julian Sayin.
Since throwing for 126 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, Sayin has been putting up incredible numbers for Ohio State. He enters this Saturday with 1,872 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and three interceptions this season. Buckeyes wide receiver Brandon Inniss believes his teammate will "definitely" win the Heisman Trophy.
"They say all these other quarterbacks are up there with him, but he’s different," Inniss said, via Eleven Warriors. "He’s the best, and they’ll see."
While there's no question Sayin has made a handful of explosive plays for the Buckeyes, it's his efficiency that really stands out.
Sayin has the highest completion percentage (80.0%) through the first seven games of a single season in the College Football Playoff era. He stands above former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, who completed 79.4% of his passes during the first seven games of the 2019 season.
Overall, Sayin is well on track to smash the record for highest completion percentage in a single season. Bo Nix completed 77.4% of his passes for Oregon during the 2023 season. He tied former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones for the No. 1 spot in the record books.
If Sayin continues to play this well, he'll have a great chance to beat out Nix and Jones for the top spot. That being said, it won't be easy.
Ohio State will take on Penn State, Purdue, UCLA, Rutgers and Michigan to close out the regular season.
