Ohio State's Gee Scott Jr. Making Presence Felt

Ohio State is adding more to its arsenal by the week.

Senior Cade Stover and graduate Gee Scott Jr. made their presence felt against Maryland Saturday, as the team ran multiple two-tight end sets.

Scott said he approaches football the same way he approaches everything else in his life, a testament to his “development and growth” since coming to Ohio State.

“Putting the defense in conflict," Scott said. "I don’t know what you can game plan for — we can stretchy you horizontally, we can go down field and we can also just run the ball up the middle. I think we do really good things on the perimeter, blocking the perimeter — Cade and I. I think it’s hard to defend. You have to literally defend every dimension of the field when him and I are out there.”

Scott said he found himself receiving a career-high 37 snaps, more than he had gotten his whole career previously.

He added that his size growth is a big reason he’s seen the field more.

“I think just continuing to get bigger and stronger and then just repetition, just like you do anything else in life," Scott said. "The more you do it the better you get.”

Though Scott has only had four receptions all season, tight ends coach Keenan Bailey said Scott has “one of the best first two steps of anyone that I’ve seen.”

Junior quarterback Kyle McCord also added that Scott has taken big steps into becoming a tougher player.

“Gee — obviously coming over from receiver — I really don’t think he ever lost anything in his route running and ball skills or anything like that,' McCord said. "I feel like the biggest thing was just becoming that physical presence on the field.”

Scott may see more time moving forward after his high snap count vs. Maryland, but a combination of him and Stover will certainly give defenses something to think about going forward.
