Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables is building what looks to be a special class on the 2027 college football recruiting trail, and it just got better.
Already four commits in, the Sooners added a fifth on Monday with the commitment of one of the top cornerbacks in the country.
Mikhail McCreary is a four-star cornerback from San Antonio, Texas. He's ranked as the No. 18 cornerback in the country and a Top 200 recruit overall, according to the 247Sports Composite.
McCreary has 14 offers to his name, and it's worth noting that there's still a ton of time to go before his recruitment officially wraps up, but he committed to the Sooners on Monday nonetheless.

McCreary worked out for Venables and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai over the summer, which firmly put him on the Sooners' radar. He then took a visit to Norman, and even though he's still in his junior season of high school, everything seemed to line up between him and Oklahoma
“Man, the timing just felt right,” McCreary told Sam Spiegelman of Rivals. “My family and I have been praying and talking about this for a while, and everything just lined up from the relationships with the coaching staff to how I felt on campus. It felt like home.”
McCreary relayed that the Sooners have been consistent with him on the recruiting trail, and that has been much appreciated. More than anything, though, he's excited about the chance to play for Venables, who is thought of as one of the top defensive minds in college football.
“At Oklahoma, it’s the tradition of Coach V putting out great defenses and great players,” McCreary explained. “They’ve shown me a clear plan for my development and future. Also, Coach Venables has the defense playing lights out.”
At the time of his commitment, Oklahoma is 4-0, ranked No. 5 in the nation and giving up just 207.5 yards and nine points per game on defense.
