Oklahoma Sooners are clearly using their momentum on the field in all of the right ways off of the field

Despite the bad news about Oklahoma Sooners QB John Mateer on Wednesday, they have still managed to enter the bye week with some great news.

According to Rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners have flipped 2027 five-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett from Texas Tech, and then added four-star offensive tackle Kaeden Penny to the 2027 recruiting class as well.

Brent Venables and his staff are cooking, and they are obviously using their positive momentum on the field, as well as off the field.

Sooners' 2027 recruiting class has a chance to finish in the top five

The Sooners haven't had a top-five recruiting class in some time. Their closest class to being top five, according to On3's rankings, was in 2023 when they were sixth. The last time they had a top-five class was in 2010. It's early, but as of right now, they have the No. 1 class in 2027 on On3.

Their current class consists of five-star offensive tackle Hackett, four-star offensive tackle Penny, four-star athlete Demare Dezeurn, and three-star offensive lineman Luke Wilson. And, there are still some pretty big names on their board that they will be close to landing, if not land, over the next few months.

Their 2026 class isn't even officially wrapped up yet, and it won't be until National Signing Day, when recruits could flip, so there is definitely still a long way to go in the 2027 class. However, with how recruiting has been the last two years, this is certainly a good way to start the class. And, it's very clear that the offensive line is a huge focus right now, as the trenches, on both sides of the ball, will continue to be the two biggest parts of a team that OU recruits well.

The Sooners are on a roll, on and off the field.
