The last month and maybe a little longer than that, has been very kind to the Oklahoma Sooners when it comes to their recruiting. They have had some really good players commit to their 2026 class, helping them climb the rankings, but also filling some needs for the future.
Jakore Smith, Matthew Nelson, and a handful of others have all committed to Oklahoma within the last month and a half. Now, they have added one more, which is crucial because their 2026 class has started somewhat slow when you compare their class to some of the other big-time programs and the numbers they have.
The Sooners have ten players currently committed to their 2026 class, and they will only keep going from here. With one coming on Tuesday and a handful more expected to come within the next few weeks, it's safe to say that the visits they held this weekend worked.
On Tuesday, Derrick Johnson II committed to OU
Derrick Johnson II, a three-star cornerback from Murrieta Valley High School in California, committed to OU on Tuesday via The REF, live on air. The son of former NFL defensive back Derrick Johnson Sr., he stands at 6'2" and 170 pounds, which is a great size for the average SEC CB.
Johnson is ranked No. 49 among cornerbacks and No. 615 overall by 247Sports. He chose Oklahoma over offers from Washington, UCLA, Utah, Kansas, TCU, and others after visiting the Sooners this last weekend.
The Sooners aren't worried about him being a three-star or the fact that they aren't loading up on four and five-star recruits like other schools. They have their own grading system, and don't go by how many stars a recruiting site gives the player. They watch the film, watch the tape, and decide whether they think that player can develop and turn into a guy who can play in the SEC.
They believe in Johnson.
