Against the Temple Owls on Saturday, the Oklahoma Sooners lost one of their players for the game. Keontez Lewis, their best receiver in Week 1 against Illinois State, was hit in the head on a play that was helmet-to-helmet and ended up leaving the game with what is thought to be a possible concussion, but there is no real clarification just yet on the injury.
However, head coach Brent Venables did talk about the injury after the game and gave somewhat of an update.
"I haven't seen him yet, but hopefully he will recover quickly, but he got his bell rung for sure," Venables told reporters after the game.
The fact that Venables said that he hopes Lewis will recover quickly could be an update in terms of what his training staff told him immediately after the game, and maybe he just doesn't want to give away too much on the situation just yet. But, they will miss Lewis a ton if he can't go next weekend against the Auburn Tigers.

On Keontez Lewis' injury
If Lewis can't go, the Sooners will be without a guy who, somehow, through three games, always seems to be open. Lewis has great route running and even better hands, as there aren't many times when he doesn't catch the ball if it's thrown his way.
Lewis has the third most receiving yards on the team, and has the second most catches on the team behind Deion Burks. They'll be without a veteran guy who's very, very good.
But, they'll be ready with depth if Lewis can't go next week. The Sooners have guys like Elijah Thomas, the true freshman who was the talk of town during fall camp, who can go in place of Lewis. Zion Kearney had two catches for 31 yards against Temple, and he's a bench guy that can step up, too.
And then, of course, they could get back Javonnie Gibson, who's been out after breaking his leg in spring camp. Then Jer'Michael Carter and Ivan Carreon are also there and available for the Sooners, and both of them are good football players with a bit of experience. When more information comes out, we'll update you with that.
