Oklahoma Sooners projected to add standout local blue-chip defensive star to 2026 recruiting class who could be a long term building block

Things are starting to fall into place with the Oklahoma Sooners' recruiting class of 2026. With quarterback Bowe Bentley in place, the Sooners are setting a strong foundation for their recruiting class of 2026.

One of those targets is local talent Tajh Overton, a four-star defensive tackle from Oklahoma. It seems like the Sooners are set to bring him in as part of their class. While he hasn't set a commitment date, that hasn't held anyone back from logging his recruitment as a win for the Sooners.

The top player in the state of Oklahoma, the 275-pound defensive tackle has been a highly-coveted recruit, with strong offers from Ole Miss, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, and Tennessee.

However, Overton is in town this weekend for the Sooners' annual ChampU BBQ, and that might be the final confirmation he needs before joining Oklahoma's class.

What makes his recruitment so interesting is that he breaks somewhat of a surprising trend for the Oklahoma Sooners. Despite Owasso High School becoming a powerhouse program in recent years, Overton is one of just two Owasso recruits in the last few years that the Sooners have held serious interest in. The last Owasso recruit who committed to play for Oklahoma was Aaron Colvin back in 2010.

Overton is the 31st-ranked defensive tackle and 266th player overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite Ranking. He would join quarterback Bowe Bentley, linebacker Jakore Smith, and wide receiver Daniel Odom as the only four stars in Oklahoma's hotly growing class of 2026.

Oklahoma already has one defensive tackle committed in the class, with Florida product Brian Harris already in last month. However, the Sooners want to add two or three to reinforce the depth of the room, as they are projecting several departures over the next two seasons.

Overton has the talent and pedigree to be a significant contributor to Oklahoma's defense for the foreseeable future. I'm expecting him to slot right in and compete for their starting three-technique role very early in his career.
