Oklahoma Sooners still have one big problem to worry about despite beating Michigan in what could have been a blowout

On Saturday, when the Oklahoma Sooners beat the Michigan Wolverines, it was very clear that running back Jaydn Ott was still not all the way healthy.

The Sooners won one of the biggest games of the Brent Venables era on Saturday, as the Wolverines just couldn't do anything on offense. We learned a few things about both teams, but really about the Sooners. Firstly, this team can be very special if they can put it all together—that's easier said than done, though. Secondly, with their brutal schedule they have, they will need to establish a better run game, which means they need Ott to be healthy.

It's very obvious he's not.

Sooners will need their star RB in 2025, but have opportunities to get him healthy

Oklahoma paid a lot of money to get Ott on campus. He was a hot commodity in the transfer portal, and yet, through two games, he has just six rushing yards on five total carries, which is last on the team of players who have had at least one carry. Ott was dealing with an injury during fall camp and missed pretty much all of it. He was listed as the RB3 on the initial two-deep depth chart, but based on what he's done in his career at Cal, we know that won't stay the same.

Coming into the game, it was thought that Ott was now healthy. He hardly played at all against Illinois State and was even announced as the starting RB on the video board before their matchup against Michigan. Luckily, without him as the lead back, the Sooners were still able to win the game, but the run game certainly could have been better.

Michigan has a great run defense, but so do some of these other SEC teams that Oklahoma is set to play in 2025. Their next game is against Temple, a team they should handle easily without Ott. So, they should probably sit him out and let Jovantae Barnes, Tory Blaylock, and either Xavier Robinson or Taylor Tatum get some run. That would have Ott getting a week to get healthier before they host the Auburn Tigers, who don't look like as much of a pushover as many thought they would be.

If the Sooners want to make a run at the postseason, they will need their star RB healthy. And, he's obviously not healthy yet. Not only did he not get as many touches as he should have if he were healthy, but he also just didn't look great when he did get the ball. He didn't have a great burst, and it was so obvious that heis game and feel just wasn't here, especially when you saw the big runs Barnes had.
