The borderline five-star prospect has turned heads at the Elite 11 competition, finishing as one of the best quarterbacks there. He led Celina to a Texas state championship last season as a junior and had a meteoric rise up the recruiting rankings after his junior season.
Bentley's competitive mindset, arm talent, quick processing, and swaggering style of play pop on his film, and it's obvious why the new staff wanted Bentley as their quarterback of the future. He's got a spark to his game that is reminiscent of Sooner legend Baker Mayfield, and the staff are hopeful he turns out with a similar career.
Oklahoma battled schools like Georgia and LSU for Bentley, with the Tigers the other top school in contention for his commitment. A consensus top-ten quarterback recruit, it's only a matter of time before Bentley earns that coveted five-star rating, and it could come at the end of this season.
His commitment comes on the heels of a sudden about-face decision to attend Oklahoma's ChampU BBQ over the weekend. Things began to fall into place when word broke late Thursday evening that longtime commit Jaden O'Neal decommitted from the Sooners.
It feels like Bentley could be the spark that ignites the rest of Oklahoma's class. The Sooners are in the hunt for several major playmakers on both sides of the ball, and having their quarterback of the future in could be a boon for them in the rest of their recruiting.
Bentley's recruitment was the first significant challenge for new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle to win, and he has delivered a resounding statement victory.
