Oklahoma State’s Zane Flores Could Be a Name to Watch

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy knows big things could be ahead for Zane Flores.

The redshirt freshman quarterback has yet to play a snap in a real game, but Gundy isn’t holding back any praise.

“He’s had a really good offseason,” Gundy said. “He did well in the spring. We think he’s gonna be a really good player. But he hasn’t played any games, so that mystery side is still there.”

That’s coach-speak for ‘watch for him.’ Flores sat out last season behind a slew of quarterbacks in Stillwater and didn’t record a single snap. Now, after a full offseason under his belt, Gundy believes the Nebraska native is ready to push for meaningful minutes.

At 6‑4, Flores brings ideal size and athleticism to the QB room. Gundy described him as big, strong, fast, smart, tough, humble, and hungry, the whole package. That kind of build and mindset gives the Cowboys more depth alongside Hauss Hejny, whose competition just got stronger.

A QB battle is expected in Stillwater, with Flores competing with Hejny and others. Gundy cautions that Flores still needs game reps to prove himself, but if spring and summer carry through, the gap could close fast.

Here is why this matters for OSU in 2025. Oklahoma State used more quarterbacks than an NFL mock draft last season, and having someone ready for the moment would be a huge turn in the tide. Flores gives Gundy a reliable contingency plan, depending on who emerges victorious this offseason.

Gundy’s words aren’t empty hype. He spent a full offseason evaluating Flores and came away impressed. That unknown “mystery side” is still to be revealed, and it could reshape Oklahoma State’s QB path. Keep those words in mind once the pads hit and Flores gets his shot.
