Oklahoma’s John Mateer Announces Career News Amid College Football Season

John Mateer and the No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners are 6-1 through seven games this season. Their only loss came to the Texas Longhorns in Week 7. They will now face the No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels in Week 9.

Mateer, in his first season with the program, has completed 133-of-205 passes for 1,567 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 209 yards and five touchdowns.

His production has put the Sooners in a position to compete for their first SEC title since joining the conference in 2024. The quarterback's popularity among fans only continues to grow.

Playing for a team with a brand as large as Oklahoma, he has gained a great deal of national attention. That's especially true when it comes to Name, Image and Likeness.

On Wednesday, Mateer announced a new NIL partnership with the restaurant Raising Cane's.

"Fueling up the @raisingcanes way. #caniacambassador," Mateer wrote via an Instagram post.

The Oklahoma quarterback cashing in on another NIL opportunity isn't a surprise. On3 gives Mateer an NIL valuation of $2.2 million, which is the 15th highest in college football.

Raising Cane's isn't the first company he's partnered with either, also having past deals with Beats by Dre, Northern Quest, ONIT Athlete, and Miss Huddy's.

This newest partnership represents a growing popularity for Mateer. The quarterback has one more year of eligibility in 2026, meaning he can continue growing his brand for another year at Oklahoma.

With this announcement made, he and the Sooners face a challenging and important opponent in Ole Miss. ESPN BET places Oklahoma as a 4.5-point favorite.

Kickoff is noon ET on Saturday at Memorial Stadium, airing on ABC.
