Ole Miss lands Nebraska transfer

Former Alabama and Nebraska defensive lineman Stephon Wynn announced his commitment to Ole Miss on Thursday, according to a tweet from OMSpirit recruiting analyst Zach Berry.

A former four-star recruit out of Anderson, S.C., Wynn initially committed to Alabama over offers from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Penn State, among others, according to 247Sports. He joined a 2018 recruiting class that featured 21 enrollees, including now-Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II.

Wynn was a 4-year veteran for Alabama and a one-year contributor for Nebraska. He totaled 22 tackles for Nebraska last season, including nine in a September loss to the Georgia Southern Eagles.

Wynn will bring Ole Miss's recruiting class up to 15 transfers. He will join two Georgia Tech recruits in defensive lineman Akelo Stone and four-star cornerback Zamari Walton. Miami (OH) cornerback John Saunders and linebacker Monty Montgomery round out the team's four-star transfer commitments on defense. All of them can help boost an Ole Miss defense that led the SEC in total tackles with just over 1,000.

The Cornhuskers will lose a much-needed experienced option just before the team's first season under head coach Matt Rhule. Rhule will need as many talented holdovers as possible to usher in a new era in Nebraska football. Nebraska's defense allowed 27.6 points and 414.4 yards per game last season, putting them in 11th and 12th place in the Big Ten, respectively.

Still, the Cornhuskers will be in good hands next season.

Nebraska brought in 11 transfers for its 2023 recruiting class. Georgia linebacker MJ Sherman, Texas A&M defensive lineman Elijah Jeudy, Florida linebacker Chief Borders and Florida cornerback Corey Collier make up the team's transfers on defense. Three four-star defensive linemen have enrolled with Nebraska, including edge rushers Princewill Umanmielen and Cameron Lenhardt, according to 247sports.
