What is the latest on Oregon offensive lineman Matthew Bedford, wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr., and cornerback Jahlil Florence?
Oregon coach Dan Lanning revealed an injury update on Bedford (right knee), who has regressed in rehabilitation in Duck practice this week.
"Yeah, he actually got dinged the other day in practice," said coach Lanning about Bedford. "So, just trying to be aware of where he's at. If he's able to help us this week, we will. But always will put our players first and see where they're at in that process."
Bedford's status is one to monitor - The highly-regarded transfer from Indiana has not played yet for Oregon but his return would provide an exciting boost to the Oregon offensive line. Coach Lanning said he felt that the Ducks' offensive line found their rhythm against Oregon State. With excellent protection vs. the Beavers, Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns and added 64 yards on the ground which included a 54-yard touchdown.
For the Bruins, Coach DeShaun Foster revealed that defensive lineman Kanye Clark and defensive back Keanu Williams suffered season ending injuries in UCLA's loss to the LSU Tigers.
Williams was UCLA's starting defensive tackle who had a sack, a quarterback hurry and a tackle for loss in two games. Clark had two pass breakups and a solo tackle in two games.
“I feel for those guys and just one positive is we get them back next season,” Foster said.
The Ducks are in pretty good shape as they look to stay undefeated in 2024. Every Big Ten team is required to submit an official injury report two hours before kickoff and the Ducks' have a relatively clean bill of health as they enter the game vs. the Bruins. Will update with the official report but here are the latest injury updates.

Senior offensive lineman Matthew Bedford: Was OUT (knee) for Week 1, 2 and 3. Oregon coach Dan Lanning said Bedford got "dinged up" in practice, leading up to the game vs. UCLA. His limited practice suggests that Bedford will not be availably vs. the Bruins.
Junior wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr.: Was OUT for Week 1, 2 and 3. Bryant was listed as questionable on the team's official injury report prior to the win over Oregon State. Coach Lanning's most recent update on Bryant Jr. is that he will "be down for a bit."
Junior offensive lineman Dave Iuli: Was OUT (foot injury) for Week 1, 2 and 3, has been practicing in the last couple weeks but there is no timetable for return.
Junior cornerback Jahlil Florence: Was OUT (knee) for Week 1, 2 and 3, has been practicing in the last couple weeks but there is no timetable for return.
Senior kicker Andrew Boyle: Missed all of 2023 (knee) and both games in 2024 - no timetable for return.
Redshirt freshman tight end Travis Brashear: Was OUT (undisclosed) for Week 1, 2 and 3.
Redshirt freshman defensive lineman My’Keil Gardner: Was OUT for Week 1, 2 and 3, no timetable for return. Gardner has been using a scooter around the Oregon practice facility.
Redshirt freshman linebacker Ashton Porter: Was OUT for Week 1, 2 and 3 due to personal reasons. Returned to practice this week.
Freshman defensive back Dakoda Fields: Was OUT for Week 1, 2 and 3, no timetable for return.

Main reason Nebraska won't make College Football Playoff revealed
Nebraska is a program that is trending up heading into the 2025 season. If anything, look at the trends for head coach Matt Rhule. In Year 3 at Temple, he had the Owls as a 10-win program and considered one of the top teams in the AAC. At Baylor, the Bears went 11-3 in his third season in Waco, and that included an 8-1 record against Big 12 opponents. Rhule is a program-builder, and especially with star quarterback Dylan Raiola entering his second year in Lincoln, the Cornhuskers will be one of the more interesting teams in the country to watch. But can they compete for the College Football Playoff this season? Interestingly enough, Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt recently revealed that he thinks Nebraska is close to being a "playoff party crasher." There is one reason he thinks the Huskers will fall short, though, and that's the defensive side of the football. First, losing former defensive coordinator Tony White to the same position at Florida State is going to be tough. "Well, I didn’t pick them because they lost Tony White, their defensive coordinator. He’s very good. So they promoted from within with John Butler," Klatt said (h/t On3). Klatt doesn't seem to think hiring from within was the right move to elevate Nebraska in 2025. He also seems worried about losses on the defensive line. Nash Hutmacher, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive lineman, is now in the NFL, as is 6-foot-5, 288-pound defensive tackle Ty Robinson. Those are two huge (literally) players that Nebraska may have a hard time replacing. "That was the heart and soul of their defense, so I question whether their defense will be as strong this year as it was a year ago," Klatt said. Even in a 12-team CFP, a team with a massive weak link probably won't cut it. It will be interesting to see if the defense really does hold back Nebraska in 2025, or if Klatt is simply overthinking it. Again, Rhule's track record is hard to ignore.
NFL under fire for decision on Chiefs WR Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs appeared to receive an early gift from the NFL regarding wide receiver Rashee Rice's looming suspension. The third-year receiver is set to have a disciplinary hearing on Sept. 30 after he pleaded guilty to collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation. The timing of Rice's hearing is curious because he pleaded guilty to his charges on the same day Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge connected to his arrest for alleged DUI. The league has already suspended Addison for the first three games of the upcoming season. Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, a league source told him that the NFL doesn't typically delay hearings as it has in the case of Rice, preferring to finalize a punishment before Week 1. “Maybe I’m a conspiracy theorist, but this is odd," said the unnamed source, via Florio. “You hardly ever see players get suspended in season unless they did something in season like a drug test or something.” The suspicion from the source and Florio is that the league is keeping Rice available for marquee matchups in the early season. The Chiefs begin their season in Sao Paulo, Brazil, playing the Los Angeles Chargers. Kansas City then plays the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants ("Sunday Night Football") and Baltimore Ravens. Florio suggested that with a hearing date of Sept. 30, Rice would likely start any suspension the Chiefs' Week 5 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars on "Monday Night Football." "At a time when many think the league favors the Chiefs, situations like this will not become evidence to the contrary," Florio said. While the early slate of games is impressive for the Chiefs, their schedule is jam-packed with heavyweight matchups. The next four games after Week 5 include the Detroit Lions ("Sunday Night Football"), Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders ("Monday Night Football" and Buffalo Bills. While the league has some explaining to do as to why it chose Sept. 30 as the date, it's hard to see why the Chiefs would have an advantage by losing Rice for those games.
Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth’s honest Aaron Rodgers verdict after joint practice
The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting closer to regular-season form, and tight end Pat Freiermuth is already liking what he sees. After Thursday’s joint practice between Pittsburgh and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Acrisure Stadium, the fifth-year veteran offered high praise for his new quarterback, while also pointing to strides being made across the offense. Aaron Rodgers’s joint practice performance was under the microscope — and Freiermuth’s take was clear. Rodgers is not expected to suit up for Saturday’s preseason matchup, as Pittsburgh continues to manage his workload ahead of Week 1. Freiermuth remains a key target in the red zone and in middle-field route concepts, and his chemistry with the 41-year-old quarterback is already drawing attention. The offensive line, meanwhile, earned a public shout-out — a sign that communication and protection are trending in the right direction. The staff continues to manage preseason usage carefully, meaning Rodgers and other starters may be limited again in Saturday’s exhibition against the Buccaneers. The Steelers and Buccaneers joint-practice offered the kind of controlled but competitive reps that coaches and players value most. No major injuries were reported, and the work helped refine offensive timing, especially in pressure moments. While Freiermuth emphasized that the unit is still building, Thursday’s showing was a positive sign. With Week 1 of the regular season approaching, the offense looks like it’s beginning to click — and the veteran tight end seems confident they’re headed in the right direction.

The clock is ticking for former Winnipeg Jet Jack Roslovic to choose where he will play next year. The 28-year-old winger, coming off a 22-goal, 39-point season with the Carolina Hurricanes, is generally considered the best forward remaining on the free agent market. NHL insider Frank Seravalli has listed the Vancouver Canucks as a team to watch in the Jack Roslovic sweepstakes. Re Jack Roslovic: 'What about the Vancouver Canucks? That would make a lot of sense for Jack Roslovic as well.' - Frank Seravalli The alignment is natural, as Vancouver might require another middle-six forward, and Roslovic's flexibility allows him to slide in as a second or third-line center. The Canucks Will Need to Free up a bit of Salary to Sign Roslovic The Canucks have $3.2 million of cap space, and that could potentially be too little to fit Roslovic in. However, his last contract carried an average annual value of $4 million, so Vancouver could need to cut some space depending on his price. A nine-year NHL veteran, Roslovic has played 526 games during his career with 102 goals, 158 assists, and 260 points. He has three goals and 14 assists in 45 playoff games. With training camps around the corner, interest in Roslovic's skills is about to heat up. The rumor mill as to where he's headed is about to unfold, and Vancouver appears to be highly in the mix.
