Oregon Receives Unwanted Update From Coveted 4-Star Recruit on Friday

Oregon and head coach Dan Lanning are in the midst of a forgettable run on the recruiting trail.

The Ducks have consistently been effective both in the high school and transfer portal ranks under Lanning, who enters his fourth season at the helm after a Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff appearance in 2024.

Oregon is the only program to finish in the top four in high school and transfer recruiting in the 2025 cycle. And the Ducks got off to a hot start in the class of 2026 before recent swings and misses.

Five-star offensive tackle and the nation's No. 1 recruit chose Miami over Oregon earlier this month after four-star quarterback Jonas Williams flipped to USC. And top EDGE Richard Wesley decommitted from the Ducks this week after making a memorable commitment just 17 days earlier.

Four-star offensive lineman target Micah Smith added to the unfortunate news on Friday by excluding Oregon from his updated list of top schools.

Smith (6-foot-5.5, 325 pounds) plays for Vero Beach (Florida) High School, where he ranks as the No. 10 interior offensive lineman and the No. 23 player in the state (247Sports composite).

The highly-coveted recruit previously included Oregon among his top six schools in November. However, the Ducks have been dropped with Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Ohio State Illinois and UCLA making the updated list.

The silver lining for Lanning and Co. is Oregon still has plenty of time to get back on track over a busy summer visit season.

While the Ducks previously sat fourth nationally, they still hold the nation's No. 10 class with seven commitments to date.
