Oscar Delp gives the reassurance Georgia Bulldogs need to believe in Gunner Stockton taking over QB1 job

There has been plenty of uncertainty surrounding projected Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterback Gunner Stockton this offseason; however, senior tight end Oscar Delp is here to reassure the fanbase.

"There’s nobody I trust more," Delp told reporters at the start of fall camp on Tuesday, July 31.

As Stockton's roommate, Delp gets a front-row seat in watching his drive and preparation. That trust built off the field should only carry over to gamedays.

Delp did not have to return this season, but he chose to for one final ride, and that could be huge for Stockton as he finds his footing under center.

Stockton enters the 2025 college football season with one start under his belt, though it's important to emphasize that the start came in the College Football Playoff Sugar Bowl after Carson Beck was sidelined with an injury. And overall, Stockon held his own against Notre Dame, completing 20 of 32 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown, including no picks. Sure, Georgia ended up falling 23-10, but Stockton’s performance turned some heads and gave a solid glimpse of what he could bring as the Bulldogs' starting quarterback.

While Stockton will still have to earn the starting quarterback job with his performance throughout fall camp, Delp isn't the only one who has a ton of trust in him.

“Gunner is a kid that leads from the front,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said during SEC Media Days. “Gunner is a winner. He comes from an athletic family background, his dad played at Georgia Southern, and he’s the kind of kid you want at the front of the line, and he leads from the front. So I appreciate what Gunner does. He’s going to be a big part of our program this year in leadership, and doing that with the offensive players. He’s already begun to do that in the leadership groups that he runs right now.”
