Penn State Football Sets Visits with 2 Top Targets at Transfer Portal Position of Need

After sounding an all-call for transfer portal linebackers after the Penn State Football spring game this weekend, Penn State has already set up visits with two of the highest-rated linebackers in the transfer portal.

According to Rival’s Richie O’Leary, Penn State has scheduled upcoming visits with UNC transfer linebacker Amare Campbell and Rutgers transfer linebacker Mohamed Toure.

Here is a breakdown on each of Penn State Football’s Top LB Targets

Amare Campbell

According to On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos, University of North Carolina transfer linebacker Amare Campbell is scheduled to visit Penn State next weekend.

The Manassas, Virginia native is ranked as the number eight linebacker in the transfer portal. Last season, Campbell recorded 76 tackles, 6.5 sacks, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble for UNC, starting all 13 games last season.

Campbell also played in 11 games and started one during his true freshman season with the Tar Heels. Campbell would have two seasons left of eligibility.

Mohamed Toure

Rutgers transfer linebacker Mohamed Toure is coming off of an injury that cost him the entire 2024 season.

Toure has had a productive career with the Scarlet Knights, playing in four seasons from 2019 through 2023 before missing the 2024 season with an injury. Prior to the injury, Toure was named a team captain (2^nd time) and was on the Butkus Award watch list. In 2023 with the Scarlet Knights, Toure recorded 92 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception.

Toure’s younger brother Vaboue is already on the Nittany Lions roster. According to O’Leary, Toure will visit the Nittany Lions “soon” but a date for the visit has not been announced yet.

The Nittany Lions are quickly setting visits with top linebackers in the portal to fill James Franklin’s noted depth issue at the position after Ta’Mere Robinson’s unexpected transfer last week.

While the Nittany Lions will be pushing hard for talent at the position, they will face heavy competition in the portal for Campbell and Toure for their services next season.
