Michigan running back Jordan Marshall has stepped into a difficult conversation. He openly defended former head coach Sherrone Moore months after the controversy that rocked the Wolverines program. Speaking candidly, Marshall admitted the situation was “hard,” but made it clear he hasn’t wavered in how he views his former coach.
“I did stand by Coach Moore, and I’ll still tell people today he’s a great coach,” Marshall said. “I truly believe that he made a mistake, and people make mistakes… one mistake doesn’t make somebody.”
His comments have sparked backlash online. Marshall acknowledged that response as well, revealing he faced criticism simply for staying loyal. “I’m getting bashed because I stuck by somebody that I trusted and that I truly loved,” he said, adding that his perspective comes from his values and faith.

Sherrone Moore’s fall from one of the best head coaches to a figure at the center of a controversy happened very fast. He was fired back in 2025 after an internal investigation found evidence of an inappropriate relationship with a female staffer.
The situation escalated the same day, when he was arrested following an incident tied to that relationship. Authorities initially charged him with serious offenses, including home invasion and stalking, according to multiple reports at the time.
In the months that followed, the legal case shifted significantly. By early 2026, Moore reached a plea agreement that reduced the charges to misdemeanors, including trespassing and misuse of a telecommunications device. He avoided jail time but was sentenced to probation and issued a no-contact order.
Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel later described the situation as a “betrayal,” explaining that the university acted only after concrete evidence emerged. The school’s stance was that it could not move on rumors alone.
For players like Marshall, though, it isn’t just an institutional decision. The entire locker room was taken by surprise when Sherrone Moore’s scandal came to light. Not to mention, it takes a heavy toll on players when management changes overnight. More than anything, Marshall’s words came from admiration and from Moore’s good leadership.
