Penn State is getting a visit from one of its biggest— figuratively and literally— transfer portal targets thus far.

Thursday afternoon, Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported that Bear Alexander, a 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive tackle who previously played at Georgia and USC, will be visiting Penn State this weekend.

Alexander left USC in interesting fashion.

After getting a decent amount of playing time— 68 snaps through three games this season— Alexander took a redshirt on the rest of the season with plans to enter the transfer portal. He made those plans a reality in December. On3Sports reported Tuesday that Penn State is one of the top three schools in the mix for Alexander. The others are Oregon and SMU.

PENN STATE WANTS HIM

When Alexander first entered the transfer portal from Georgia in the spring of 2023, Penn State was one of his six finalists.

After that, he played a season plus in LA.

Alexander deciding to redshirt meant that he wasn’t available for USC when Penn State came to the Coliseum for an Oct. 12 showdown.

Penn State ended up winning that game 33-30 in an overtime thriller.

A POSITION OF NEED

One of Penn State football’s biggest needs of this transfer portal cycle is defensive tackle. Dvon J-Thomas (sixth-year) and Coziah Izzard (fifth-year) will be out of eligibility, and Zane Durant (third-year) has played well enough to where declaring for the NFL Draft is an option. So Penn State needs bodies, and a talented player like Alexander could help.

Penn State has its first-ever College Football Playoff game scheduled for noon Dec. 21 against SMU on TNT/MAX.

Former Oregon Ducks Strength Coach Aaron Feld Leaving Miami Hurricanes, Mario Cristobal

The Miami Hurricanes lost their strength coach on Saturday as former Oregon Ducks strength and conditioning coordinator Aaron Feld announced that he is stepping away from Miami's program. Feld was hired to work at Oregon by former Ducks coach Mario Cristobal in 2018 as one of the first hires that Cristobal made as the coach at Oregon. While with the Ducks, Feld enjoyed a bit of virality online, thanks in part to his trademark mustache. The former Oregon strength coach coined the catchphrase "Fill The Sleeves," and he also created a 45-day challenge that encouraged his followers to work on building muscle mass in their biceps and triceps. However, Feld followed Cristobal to Miami in 2022 after spending four seasons in Eugene, Oregon. Now, it appears as though Feld and Cristobal are parting ways after the Miami strength coach revealed he will no longer be working for the Hurricanes' football program. Feld announced the news with a heartfelt message that he posted onto social media: "Thank you to the University of Miami and the Hurricane Football program for a great run! I have nothing but love and respect for this football team," wrote Feld in his announcement. "This was a tough decision to have to make, but ultimately the choice was clear. At the end of the day, my wife and kids deserve more fro me than my circumstances allowed, so the only course of action was to change my circumstances. Failing as a husband and a father will never be an option." "Developing a world-class performance team at The U will always be a highlight of my career, and I am leaving the Canes football program in extremely capable hands. I have no doubt they will continue to lead the profession and have great success," Feld continued. Feld did not thank or address Cristobal in his statement, but he did leave a motivational message behind for his former players. "To the players: I love you guys. Serving you every day has made me a better husband, father, and coach. For that I will never be able to thank you enough. Remember, no individual is important than The Team. Stick together, and finish what you started," Feld wrote. Cristobal and Miami hired two assistant strength and conditioning coaches, Nick Tulloch and Houston Owens, prior to Feld's departure from the program. With Tulloch and Owens already working for Miami, it is unclear whether Cristobal will replace Feld by promoting from within or making an outside hire. Prior to working at Oregon and Miami with Cristobal, Feld was part of the Georgia Bulldogs program as the assistant director of strength and conditioning. Feld also volunteered for the Alabama Crimson Tide where he met Cristobal, who worked under Alabama coach Nick Saban for four seasons.

‘In What World Does This Make Sense?????’: Oilers and $63M Forward

According to some, throw out the idea that the Edmonton Oilers should pursue Max Pacioretty. A veteran forward who has earned over $63 million over the course of his NHL career has yet to sign an NHL contract and was recently mentioned in a post by David Staples as a possible fit. In a recent post, the Journal noted, “All of the top NHL unrestricted free agents have already signed contracts, but there’s one big name player still available that makes good sense for the Edmonton Oilers to pursue.” Responses have been varied, with a few quite vocal about the Oilers not following Staples’ advice. “In what world does this make sense?????” writes a commenter on a recent post for The Hockey Writers. Another commenter wrote, “Pacioretty is a good journeyman player but he is injury prone now, late in his career. Oilers might be lucky to get 40 games out of him. They should look elsewhere instead of taking a chance on Patches.” Tyler Yaremchuk of Oilers Nation chimed in and said, “He scored five goals in 37 games last year with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Can’t stay healthy, very old, very slow.” Yaremchuk then went on a rant, listing several Oilers forwards who would be better than Pacioretty. What About Pacioretty on a PTO? Is there any reason that a team that is looking to get younger and faster, and move out depth pieces that were older and less productive than expected, would revert back to last summer’s strategy? It seems like an odd choice on the surface. Something would have to happen that would make giving Pacioretty a look risk-free. That means only a PTO. Even at that point, should he agree, it would require him to be willing to sign a two-way contract for the league minimum.

Five potential landing spots for Christian Wilkins after stunning Raiders release

The Las Vegas Raiders just stunned the league by releasing defensive tackle Christian Wilkins after only one year with the team. After signing a four-year, $110 million contract, he struggled with injuries in 2024. This was supposed to be a big bounce-back year for Wilkins, but after a dispute between the two sides in regard to how to handle his foot injury, the team decided it was best to part ways. Now, a premier interior disruptor is suddenly available. Assuming his medicals get checked out soon, there should be a lot of interest around the league. Where should he land? Dallas Cowboys Dallas has needed a dominant interior presence for quite some time. Osa Odighizuwa is an awesome threat, but he is only solid against the run. Alongside him, the team will be banking heavily on 2023 first-rounder Mazi Smith, who has been disappointing so far. With Dallas looking to return to the playoffs, adding a stud like Wilkins could give Dallas one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. San Francisco 49ers The 49ers added some young bodies in CJ West and Alfred Collins, yet neither offer a proven, all-around talent like Wilkins could if healthy. The 49ers defensive line was horrid outside of Nick Bosa in 2024, but by adding Wilkins, the team would now have a solid cast of starters with Nick Bosa, Mykel Williams, Wilkins and Kevin Givens/Jordan Elliott. Miami Dolphins A return to Miami makes a ton of sense for both sides. The Dolphins know exactly how to use Wilkins, he knows the building and players, and the transition would be very easy. Miami needs help in the interior defensive line; by plugging Wilkins back into his old role, he could offer the quickest path to high-level impact. Detroit Lions With Levi Onwuzurike out with injury and Detroit needing more juice on the defensive line, adding a proven disruptor like Wilkins could make some sense. He could provide more depth while he gets fully healthy, and he can join a legit Super Bowl contender. His energy and mentality could be a good fit for a Dan Campbell-led squad. Jacksonville Jaguars The Jaguars defense is average in the interior, but they have excellent edge-rushers who would benefit greatly from a strong disruptor up the middle. Wilkins could balance the front, help in the run defense and allow more one-on-ones for their premier edge-rushers. For a team that wants to return to the playoffs as soon as possible, adding a veteran like Wilkins could be a worthy bet to make.

Celtics Roster ‘Makes Zero Sense’ Says NBA Insider

Bleacher Report's Dan Favale listed the Boston Celtics' roster as one of five which 'make no sense' ahead of the 2025-26 season. Favale cited the Celtics' notable lack of presence in their frontcourt as a major issue for the Eastern powerhouse heading into an uncertain season with their superstar player out. More news: Former Celtics NBA Champion Released By West Squad "Beantown's 4-5 rotation is currently populated by Sam Hauser, Georges Niang, Xavier Tillman, Neemias Queta, Josh Minnott and Luka Garza," said Favale. "That is rough. Especially when it's only a matter of time before Hauser or Niang ambles his way onto the chopping block as the Celtics continue to slash operating costs. "Perhaps Boston will snare another 4 and/or 5 as part of subsequent trades. Or maybe it's secretly hoping Al Horford will get tired of being held hostage by restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga and return on the minimum. "Whatever the Celtics are doing here, no matter how out-of-the-mix they're attempting to be, the frontcourt needs more juice." The Celtics definitely have a need for bigs and have a plethora of guards, and will need to get bigger if they are to compete in a physical conference. The Celtics are notably tight on money, so a signing feels unlikely; however, after waiving G League MVP JD Davison, they have a spot on their roster to make a surprise move, perhaps for Horford potentially. More news: Jayson Tatum Receives Injury Advice From Former Celtics Forward Whether or not that is the case, the Celtics intend to compete this season, and will definitely need more size in order to hang around some of the better teams in the conference.
