Prized Georgia wide receiver transfer Tyler Williams visiting Gophers?

It appears that a former four-star wide receiver recruit from the powerhouse Georgia Bulldogs was on the University of Minnesota campus on Monday.

Tyler Williams, a 6-foot-4 receiver who redshirted at Georgia during his freshman season in 2023, posted a photo of the Mississippi River from the U of M campus to his Instagram account on Monday. Williams entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 16, so was he visiting the Gophers? It's a fair conclusion to draw.

Recruiting service On3 ranked Williams as the No. 68 recruit in the country in the Class of 2023 and 247Sports considered him a four-star recruit and ranked No. 103 in the country.

Minnesota doesn't appear to be the only school chasing Williams. According to On3"s Pete Nako, Williams had an in-home visit with South Florida and there are two teams from the ACC also interested.

The Gophers' wide receiver depth is a bit questionable entering 2024. Leading receiver Daniel Jackson is back to catch passes from new quarterback Max Brosmer, and the depth behind him includes Le'Meke Brockington, Jaylen Varner, Elijah Spencer and Kristen Hoskins and Cristian Driver. There is clearly room for a talented redshirt freshman to make a name for himself at the U of M.

The high school scouting report from 247Sports called Williams a "big play machine" who has the "the physical tools to emerge as a starter at the Power Five level and possibly even an NFL Draft pick one day if he keeps progressing and takes to coaching."

Williams appeared in two games for Georgia in 2023. He was a basketball and football standout at Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Fla.
