Pro Football Focus Ranks Utah’s Spencer Fano Among College Football’s Best

Utah’s standout offensive tackle Spencer Fano earned a major nod from Pro Football Focus this week, landing at No. 5 on their Top 50 list of college football’s best heading into the 2025 season.

The Spanish Fork, Utah native posted a 93.0 overall PFF grade in 2024, the highest among all FBS tackles, propelled by an elite 93.6 run-blocking grade that led the nation by more than three points.

Fano didn’t just dominate the ground game; his 79.5 pass-blocking grade also ranked him among the top 30 Power-Four tackles. That consistency and athletic upside earned him first-team All-American recognition from PFF and a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team.

As just a true sophomore, the 6-foot-5, 304-pound tackle has logged 25 career starts and appears polished enough that some NFL scouts might project him inside to guard at the next level.

PFF analysts Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman highlighted Fano’s blend of power, technique, and athleticism during their video breakdown of the top five players. They underscored that he anchors Utah’s run game and sets the tone up front, laying a foundation for the Utes to pursue a playoff push in 2025.

Fano’s elite ranking also keeps Utah’s offensive line in the national conversation. It’s the continuation of a positional legacy, with Caleb Lomu now emerging alongside Fano following his Freshman All-America campaign at left tackle.

With the Utes installing a new offensive staff this fall, having a centerpiece like Fano gives the run scheme immediate credibility and NFL-caliber accountability. If Utah is serious about earning a bid to the College Football Playoff, it’ll lean on its trenches, and PFF’s No. 5 ranking proves they have the talent upfront to make it happen.
