Michigan is just hanging around.
It’s 6-2, but its only Big Ten loss was to USC. If it wins out, it has a real shot of getting into the Big Ten Championship, and more importantly, would lock down a spot in the CFP
Road trips to Northwestern and Maryland won’t be layups, but get by Purdue, and it should be smooth sailing until the showdown with Ohio State.
Purdue has yet to win a Big Ten game, but it’s battling. It lost a heartbreaker to Rutgers last week, and now the goal is to keep improving and try to ruin someone’s season with this, followed up by Ohio State, at Washington, and Indiana to close.

Purdue is good, but it can’t close. Michigan is more methodical than explosive, so as long as the Boilermaker offense can keep pressing, it should be able to hang around until the end.
To hold down the Wolverines, you have to hold up against the run. Purdue’s defense hasn’t been awful, but teams have been able to pound and pound and pound.
It’s death by 1000 runs - or over 40 times per game - which slows things down, but that means the Boilermakers have to win third downs.
Michigan hasn’t been blah on third downs, quarterback Bryce Underwood hasn’t been consistently accurate enough, and again, the chances will be there to come up with key stops and plays. Purdue has to finally be able to take advantage of them. But …
Yeah, all of that in the Why Purdue Will Win section; only Michigan has to then take it one step further to dominate.
Purdue does a lot of things right, but it doesn’t do much in the time of possession battle, and it can’t overcome even the slightest blip or mistake.
Michigan might not be a wild fun show, but it knows what it is. Grind, don’t make the freshman quarterback have to do anything crazy, and win the turnover battle. The Wolverines have only turned it over six times so far.
Purdue doesn’t force takeaways, and the Rutgers loss was the first time since Week Two that it didn’t turn it over multiple times.
Run, rinse, repeat.
Michigan won’t do anything crazy here. It’ll lean on the running game that doesn’t always take over games, but it’ll rumble past 45 carries for just the third time this season.
Purdue’s offense will produce enough to make the Wolverines keep working, but over the long haul, the difference in line play will take over. Three Purdue turnovers will end any hope of pulling off the shocker.
