Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Ewers led Texas to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinals, but his injury history was part of the reason he slid to the seventh round. Over the first few weeks of training camp, it looked as if the Dolphins got the steal of the draft.
The former Longhorn was making several big-time throws and named a standout player of many of Miami's training camp practices. Some believe Ewers will beat out Zach Wilson for the backup quarterback role behind starter Tua Tagovailoa.
Unfortunately Ewers took a step backwards in his NFL preseason debut on Sunday. The Dolphins faced the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field and Ewers took the field at the start of the second half.
Ewers made a few impressive throws, some which were dropped, but overall underwhelmed in his debut. He finished the game with only five completions on 18 attempts for 91 yards. He also coughed up two fumbles in the 24-24 final score.

The Dolphins have two more preseason games against the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars. Ewers will need to have strong performances in each of these contests if he hopes to jump Wilson on the depth chart this season.
