Ranking Big 12 Games in Week 7

Week 7 of the college football season is upon us, as we are in store for another exciting weekend of Big 12 action. I thought it would be fun to rank the games based on my interest each week. Between big-time matchups, total duds, and everything in between, here are my best-to-worst games for the weekend.

#1. No. 21 Arizona State at Utah

There is no doubt that this is the biggest and most anticipated game in the conference this weekend. Arizona State is still undefeated in Big 12 play, and Utah’s only loss was to Texas Tech a couple of weeks ago. Both teams are conference title contenders, and this game has huge implications. One could argue this is the best matchup so far this season, and I know Rice-Eccles will be rocking.

#2. No. 18 BYU at Arizona

This is a game where we are going to find out a lot more about both teams. BYU is 5-0 for the second straight season, and some people are still doubting them. Meanwhile, Arizona’s best win came against Kansas State last month, and I just don’t know how good they truly are. Either way, the result of this one will tell me a lot.

#3: TCU at Kansas State

Perhaps the most underrated game of the weekend is in Manhattan, Kansas. TCU is still fighting for a Big 12 title, and Kansas State is likely already out of contention with two losses. However, I want to see which Kansas State team shows up. Are they going to roll over or put up a fight? There’s still plenty of talent on that team to give TCU a game and play spoiler. If not, then they are going to have a tough time making a bowl game.

#4: No. 22 Iowa State at Colorado

This is a must-win game for Iowa State to keep its Jerry World hopes alive at this point after losing to Cincinnati last weekend. Colorado has shown flashes this season, but has yet to put it all together. I think it’s safe to say that the loser of this one is likely out of the Big 12 title race. Also, this is a nice little throwback to the old Big 12 North days that I miss so much, and I am glad it’s back.

#5: Kansas at No. 9 Texas Tech

The fact that this game is this far down the list should tell you just how deep the slate is for the weekend. Kansas will be the best offense Texas Tech has seen this season by a good margin, but the Red Raiders have curb-stomped everyone in their path for a reason. It’s because they are the best team in the Big 12. I don’t think it’s crazy that Tech is favored by two touchdowns in Lubbock.

#6: UCF at Cincinnati

If this game were at the bounce house, I would put it a little higher, maybe, but with UCF’s quarterback issues, I just don’t see the Knights making this one interesting. It’s a shame because Cincinnati’s defense is vulnerable, and they could make it a game. The Bearcats’ offense has been on a heater with Brendan Sorsby and the weapons around him, and I don’t think UCF will be able to keep up offensively.

#7: Houston at Oklahoma State

Do I really need to say anything here? Oklahoma State has been awful this season, and no matter who starts at quarterback for Houston, they would win by double digits. You can put a fork in the Cowboys because they are done.
