After shocking the college football world by entering the transfer portal on Thursday, Georgia transfer Carson Beck is headed to Miami on a valuable NIL deal.
Beck, who entered the portal with a "do not contact" tag, announced his commitment to the Hurricanes on Friday afternoon. He originally announced his plans to enter the NFL draft in December, but walked back his decision with another year of eligibility remaining.
Beck's move to the Hurricanes did not come as a surprise given his ties to Florida as a Jacksonville native. Additionally, Beck's girlfriend Hanna Cavinder plays basketball for Miami.
Beck put together an impressive career with the Bulldogs. After signing as a four-star recruit in the 2020 class and waiting his turn behind Stetson Bennett, Beck took the keys of the Georgia offense in 2023 and started for two seasons while posting a 24-3 record.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound passer immediately became the No. 1 player in the transfer portal (247Sports). And Beck was expected to demand a lucrative NIL deal to land his services.
According to Miami sportscaster Josh Moser, Beck's NIL deal with Miami is reportedly $4 million.
That would place Beck in the top five highest valuations in college football, headlined by Texas quarterback Arch Manning and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, per On3.
Beck led the SEC and finished third nationally in passing as junior. The Bulldogs ultimately missed the College Football Playoff that season, and Beck elected to forego the NFL draft for another run in Athens.
However, Beck struggled to return to his 2023 form this season. He threw a career-high 12 interceptions while throwing for 3,485 yards with 28 touchdowns.
Beck was knocked out of the SEC championship win over Texas due to an elbow injury that has since required surgery. He isn't expected to begin throwing again until March, but should be in form to start practicing before the summer period.
The Hurricanes appear to have their replacement for Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback Cam Ward, who led the program to a 10-3 season under head coach Mario Cristobal.
Ward, who has declared for the NFL draft, set a lofty precedent for a transfer quarterback at Miami. And with 7,912 career passing yards and 58 touchdowns to Beck's name already, it wouldn't be a surprise for Miami to keep the offensive firepower rolling in 2025.
