Reporter claims that former Vols Wesley Walker and Tyler Baron were kicked off the team by Jeff Brohm at Louisville
Kylie Graham-USA TODAY Sports

It's been an eventful offseason for former Tennessee Vols defenders Wesley Walker and Tyler Baron.

Walker and Baron, who are stepbrothers, initially left Tennessee this offseason for Ole Miss before eventually transferring to Louisville ahead of spring practice.

After going through spring practice with the Cardinals, Walker and Baron both re-entered the NCAA transfer portal. Walker committed to Michigan while Baron decided to take his talents to Miami.

Earlier this week, Cardinal Sport Zone's Jeremy Wahman joined the College Football Addiction podcast and he suggested that Walker and Baron, along with running back Peny Boone (who initially transferred to Louisville this offseason before landing at UCF), were kicked off the team by Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm due to locker room issues that centered on NIL.

"We spoke in the prior segment about (Wesley) Walker, (Tyler) Baron, and Peny Boone," said Wahman. "They were all represented by an agent. So I guess I'm going to dispel the rumors (that Louisville has had major NIL issues). Coach (Jeff) Brohm kicked them all off the team because they were starting trouble in the locker room, telling everybody 'oh I'm making this much, you should tell your guys to get you this much'. So it was a situation where you had some troublemakers in the locker room. Coach Brohm found out about it [and] he gave them the boot."

"They get it done (The 502 Circle, which is Louisville's collective), they do a good job fundraising and stuff like that," added Wahman. "So no, there are no checks that bounced.....just a vicious rumor. And again, Coach Brohm did boot those kids off the team because they were starting trouble in the locker room."

The NCAA transfer portal combined with NIL deals have certainly made it even more challenging for coaches to manage locker rooms.

When it comes to Baron and Walker, while we don't know exactly what did or didn't happen in Louisville's locker room, we do know that both of those players played at a high level for Tennessee the last several years. Nothing away from the field seemed to impact their on-field production (especially for Baron, who had a career year for the Vols in 2023, totaling 10.5 tackles for loss and six sacks).

Despite what supposedly happened at Louisville, Michigan, the defending national champs, and Miami, a team that hopes to make the College Football Playoff in 2024, had no reservations about accepting commitments from Walker and Baron.
