The Ohio State Buckeyes are back on top of college football after its 14-7 home victory against Texas in Week 1. Ryan Day and his program were shockingly ranked third in the country entering the year despite winning the national championship only seven months prior. But justice was served on Tuesday as the AP Poll released its latest results.

The Buckeyes were home favorites despite being the lower-seeded team against Texas. Entering as the No. 3 team behind No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Penn State, the Buckeyes engaged in an offensive struggle to outwit and outplay the Longhorns for the second time in its last three games. Ohio State was the obvious choice to rise to the top spot.

Led by an elite defense and cast of new offensive playmakers, Ohio State turned back the clock to the Jim Tressel era in Week 1. It wasn't pretty since Julian Sayin and his Buckeye offense seemed to leave some opportunities on the field, but the freshman passer did enough to manage the win.

Now, the Buckeyes will play a slew of easy games until mid-October when they travel to No. 11 Illinois. In the meantime, the Nittany Lions stayed at No. 2, and Texas fell to seventh, which seems overly harsh given they lost to the defending champions on the road.
