Will Howard had a bit of an injury scare in the first half of Ohio State's 13-10 loss to Michigan on Saturday. But the senior QB was eventually able to return and finish the game.
Speaking to the media after the game, head coach Ryan Day explained the situation regarding his team's quarterback and where he stands going into the College Football Playoff.
"I just go based off of what our doctors say," Day shared. "And he came out for a second and then they said he was available and he was OK to go back in the game. And I checked with him and he said he was in good shape and I didn't recognize anything just in terms of just the interaction that led to anything other than for him to go play."
Howard's final line saw him complete just 19-of-33 passes for 175 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He also added 10 yards on the ground with his legs.
His struggles weren't the only reason the Buckeyes lost but they certainly didn't help.
"Everybody wants to win this game in the worst way," Day said of the rivalry. "And nobody wants to win it more than we do. And it's our number one goal every year. And so when you don't do that, there's disappointment and frustration. I don't blame anybody for being upset [and fans booing]. I'm upset more than anybody. And those players are too and the coaches and everybody that goes at it."
This weekend marked the fourth straight time Ohio State has fallen to Michigan — the longest such streak since 1988-1991.
If there's any silver lining for the Scarlet and Gray, Saturday's defeat isn't likely to keep them out of the College Football Playoff. But it has to be hard to end the regular season with such a sour taste in their mouths.
