The whole point of the Ohio State Buckeyes hosting as many recruits as possible is to swing a key decision their way. While recruiting projections are as difficult to nail as the lottery numbers for tonight, prognosticators generally have a good idea of which programs are the real contenders.
However, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and offensive line coach Tyler Bowen have thrusted themselves into a race for one of the nation's top blockers. Four-star guard Breck Kolojay, from Littleton, Colorado, is one of the premier uncommitted interior lineman in the nation.
Entering this past weekend, Miami, Florida, Georgia, and Oklahoma had higher recruiting prediction machine odds to land him than any other team. The Buckeyes still aren't in the top five.
Despite this, the tides appear to have changed.
Chad Simmons of On3 revealed that Kolojay might be rerouting his future plans to go through Columbus despite this not being seen as likely before his visit.
Breck Kolojay still has some big visits ahead, especially to Georgia and Miami, but Ohio State has quickly become a factor in his recruitment. The four-star offensive lineman at IMG Academy visited Columbus for the first time this spring before taking the official visit over the weekend. The Bulldogs and the Hurricanes have been viewed as two favorites, but the Buckeyes are one to watch too.
Ohio State has been working from behind a bit on blockers after Justin Frye bolted for the Arizona Cardinals after winning a National Championship. Frye was a great developer but not an elite recruiter.
Bowen has better chops on the recruiting trail, and Ohio State wants to get back to being a top landing spot for blockers. We'll see if they can steal this big fish from the grasp of Miami and Georgia and score a big win.
