Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns have been putting in the early work on the 2027 recruiting trail and are doing their best to ensure that they can snag a pair of highly touted EDGEs.
Right now, the coaching staff has one lone commitment for the class: 4-star EDGE Taven Epps. Although he’s already committed, the current goal is to keep it that way, as he’s exploring other options and still taking visits outside of Austin.
He’s rated as high as the No. 1 EDGE in the class by ESPN, and it’s all because of his versatility at 6-feet-4, 235 pounds. His explosiveness has allowed him to play EDGE, linebacker, and even line up at tight end, and excel in every position he’s in.
Texas fans shouldn’t be surprised if he ends up a 5-star by the time he signs. However, pen to paper is exactly what the Texas coaching staff is worried about with him, as he’s scheduled to visit North Carolina this weekend.
He’s also taken visits to Georgia and USC, and is looking to potentially take a look at Notre Dame. The good thing is that he will be in Dallas in a few weeks for the Red River Rivalry.
Whether he stays committed or not, Texas is also looking to secure a commitment from 4-star No. 32 EDGE Adriel Rojas.
Rojas is a Georgia native and has secured plenty of offers from big schools like Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, and more. So far, he’s yet to take any visits, but he’s been recruited by Georgia Tech the most so far.
With many of those offers coming in over the weekend, it will take him some time to narrow down his interests and decide which school is the best fit for him. His recruitment won’t be easy or quick, so fans shouldn’t expect a decision any time soon.
