Savion Hiter made his highly anticipated decision on Tuesday.
The five-star recruit is the No. 9 overall prospect and top-ranked running back from the class of 2026, per 247Sports. Hiter narrowed down his finalists to Michigan, Ohio State, Georgia, and Tennessee before his big announcement.
Hiter revealed his commitment to Michigan, giving Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore another massive recruiting triumph.
Hiter has dominated as a two-way star at Louisa County in Mineral, Virginia. The 6-foot, 200-pounder registered 1,698 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns as a junior, adding seven sacks and an interception on defense while returning three kickoffs for touchdowns.
Andrew Ivins compared Hiter to running back Omarion Hampton, drafted in this year's first round after tormenting ACC defenses at North Carolina, in his 247Sports scouting report.
"Effective as both an inside and outside runner as he's quick to chart a course and charge forward," Ivins wrote of Hiter. "Fast feet allow him to side-step trouble as he frequently dances around would-be tacklers in the backfield and turns negative plays into positive plays. Core strength and a lower pad level routinely negate arm tackles while full-speed cuts make it even harder for defenders to get him on the ground, especially when he breaks through the first wave of obstacles."
If Hiter keeps his commitment, he'll give Moore an explosive duo alongside quarterback Bryce Underwood in 2026.
Underwood chose Michigan as the class of 2025's top-ranked recruit. The 6-foot-4 passer celebrated his 18th birthday Tuesday with news of Hiter planning to join him and five-star offensive lineman Andrew Babalola in Ann Arbor.
Although Moore has yet to name his Week 1 starting quarterback, Underwood could quickly seize the job and attempt to lead the Wolverines back to title contention. He and Hiter would headline a dangerous offense that went 8-5 in Moore's first full season as head coach, ending the campaign with a massive upset over Ohio State and a ReliaQuest Bowl victory against Alabama.
Michigan has also secured early 2026 commitments from four-star edge rusher Carter Meadows and wide receiver Zion Robinson. Moore and Co. will look to keep stacking the future roster as the Wolverines prepare to start their season against New Mexico on Saturday, Aug. 30.
