SEC Program Fires Coach After Week 10 Game

The SEC head coaching carousel is heating up, with LSU's Brian Kelly, Florida's Billy Napier and Arkansas' Sam Pittman all being let go this season.

However, head coaches aren't the only ones being shown the door, and the South Carolina Gamecocks have already made several internal changes. On Oct. 12, head coach Shane Beamer fired offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley.

Going into the season, the Gamecocks were ranked No. 13 on the AP Top 25 poll. However, after a 30-14 Week 10 loss to the No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels, South Carolina is 3-6 (1-6 SEC) and unranked. To make matters worse, the Gamecocks are on a four-game losing streak.

The changes keep coming, and on Sunday, Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported that South Carolina has fired offensive coordinator Mike Shula.

"South Carolina is firing offensive coordinator Mike Shula, sources tell @TonyMorrellGCI and me for @CBSSports," Zenitz wrote.

This was Shula's first season as the Gamecocks' offensive coordinator after spending 2024 as the program's senior offensive assistant. Shula, the son of NFL coaching legend Don Shula, was the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2003-06.

South Carolina's offense has struggled all season. Within the SEC, the Gamecocks rank last in both total yards per game (294.1) and points per game (19.7).

Under the guidance of Beamer and Shula, quarterback LaNorris Sellers has struggled. In nine games this season, he has thrown for 1,536 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions. He has also rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns.

Before the season started, Athlon Sports' Kyle Wood ranked Sellers at No. 4 on a list of the top 25 Heisman Trophy contenders.

With three regular-season games remaining, though, Shula may not be the final casualty.

Unless things quickly turn around, Beamer is on pace for his second losing season with South Carolina since taking over as head coach in 2021.

The Gamecocks have a bye week before taking on the third-ranked Texas A&M Aggies (8-0) on Nov. 15.
