College football has changed dramatically in recent years. The transfer portal has given players the freedom to switch schools more often, with some transferring three, four, or even five times during their careers.
Since the portal opened on Dec. 9, nearly 2,000 players have entered it so far, reshaping rosters across the country. And with just over a week left before the window closes, that number is likely to climb even higher.
For the Arkansas Razorbacks, they have already lost 27 players to the portal.
Some of the biggest names to leave the Arkansas program include cornerback Jaylon Braxton, tight end Luke Hasz, offensive lineman Patrick Kutas, quarterback Malachi Singleton, offensive lineman Addison Nichols, offensive lineman Josh Braun and running back Braylon Russell.
Arkansas has added eight transfers so far, but losing 27 players in just over 10 days is a significant setback.
The Razorbacks finished the 2024 season with a 6-6 overall record and 3-6 in SEC play. That simply hasn't been good enough for their fanbase. By mid-November, calls for head coach Sam Pittman to be fired were growing louder, even leading to a billboard being put up.
"Thank you for a great 5 years, Sam," the billboard read. "A change is needed in order to compete in the SEC."
Despite the criticism, Arkansas ultimately decided to stick with Pittman, bringing him back for the 2025 season.
