SEC’s Leading Rusher Undergoes Emergency Surgery After Getting Shot At Concert

Missouri Tigers star Ahmad Hardy was wounded during a shooting incident at a concert in Mississippi on Sunday morning. 

The running back had a sensational 2025 campaign for the school, leading the SEC in rushing with 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns. His timeline for return is unknown following this worrying development. 

The Tigers have announced that Hardy, a 2025 first-team All-SEC selection, has undergone surgery and is in stable condition. 

“Mizzou Football student-athlete Ahmad Hardy was a victim of a shooting a concert in Mississippi early Sunday morning and sustained a gunshot wound,” they said in a statement.

 “Ahmad underwent surgery Sunday in Mississippi and is in stable condition. Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans,” the statement continues. “We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.

“A timeline for his return to football activities is unknown at this time. Mizzou Athletics will provide more information on his status when it becomes available.”

ESPN’s Pete Thamel provided an update on Hardy’s condition on Monday.

“Hardy is alert Monday and moving around, a source told ESPN’s Pete Thamel, and there’s optimism that he will play football again,” the reporter shared. “How quickly he can return and the impact, however, has yet to be determined.”

No other information is available at this time.

Hardy played for Louisiana-Monroe as a freshman, rushing for 1,351 yards and 13 touchdowns before transferring to Mizzou. 

The Rivals Industry Ranking had him as the No. 2 running back in the portal before he joined the Tigers. 

They finished the term with a Gator Bowl loss to Virginia, going 8-5. 

Meanwhile, Hardy has been vaunted as a Heisman candidate heading into the 2026 season and is projected to be a first-round pick in 2027. 

Sunday’s incident could potentially impact the upcoming season and beyond.
