The NFL draft is set to begin on Thursday, and one of the most talked-about storylines continues to revolve around Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
Once projected as a potential No. 1 overall pick, Sanders has steadily slipped down draft boards in recent weeks. Now, just hours before the draft, there’s growing speculation that he could fall as far as the No. 21 pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers—despite being considered the No. 2 quarterback in this year’s class.
Still, Sanders has consistently said he isn’t fazed by outside noise—and we’ll see if that holds true if he finds himself waiting several hours Thursday night before hearing his name called.
While his father and head coach, Deion Sanders, has been vocal in his support, Shedeur’s mother, Pilar Sanders, also made her voice heard on Wednesday. Following the release of a Gatorade commercial featuring her son, she took to Instagram to share a passionate message defending him.
“The Nation’s No. 1 QB — UNDENIABLE, UNMATCHED, UNSTOPPABLE!” Pilar Sanders posted. “In a landscape filled with promising talents, one quarterback stands alone at the pinnacle. From coast to coast, across every division, no quarterback has demonstrated the combination of ELITE FOOTBALL INTELLIGENCE, SURGICAL ACCURACY, and UNSHAKABLE POISE under the unthinkable amount of pressure like my son Shedeur—and we all know it and have witnessed it.”
She added, “[Shedeur Sanders] is not just a top prospect—HE IS THEE #1 QUARTERBACK IN THE COUNTRY. PERIODT! Selah.”
Shedeur was asked on his podcast, "2Legendary" if he has a "special woman" in his life. While the question may have been aimed at a potential girlfriend, he didn’t hesitate to highlight his mom, responding, “Yes, I have my mom [Pilar Sanders].
