Sherrone Moore and Michigan Wolverines suffer major recruiting loss after year-long commitment abruptly ends

Losing a prospect to a flip situation is a tough one, but it's especially painful when a program has built its recruiting board around having someone on the board for a year. Sherrone Moore locked in four-star cornerback Brody Jennings this time last year, but the 2026 prospect is now headed to Miami.

Despite taking four visits to Michigan to only two to Miami, the Florida native changed his mind about relocating to Ann Arbor. He revealed why after his decision, and it's hard to put much blame on Michigan and Sherrone Moore.

"BREAKING: Four-Star CB Brody Jennings has flipped his commitment from Michigan to Miami, he tells me for @rivals," Fawcett wrote. "The 6'1 180 CB from Jacksonville, FL had been committed to the Wolverines since July 2024," On3's Hayes Fawcett tweeted.

It's not just that Jennings' brother played at Miami from 2017-2020, or that his parents are from Miami, or that his sister there on the track team currently. Jennings simply loves the program's environment.

“Just being down there, the environment at Miami is just different,” Jennings told CaneSport. “Like I said when I took my official visit to Miami, I said, ‘I don’t know if any official visits are topping this,’ and they didn’t. So that was definitely a big part of it, the official visit. I had an amazing time. I’ve been there multiple times throughout my high school years, going down there in the spring and for a game.

“It’s somewhere that I just want to be and my family wants me to be,” Jennings added. “I want to be successful and play with my family and friends that are down there in Miami. That’s really where home is. That’s where my parents are from, everybody’s from. It would be great to see all of my family down there and have them watch me play.”

It's hard to imagine how Michigan could even compete with that once Jennings felt at home. The Wolverines weren't going to outpay Miami enough to overcome that much of a connection with a place he's intimately familiar with.

Moore and company won't be happy with losing Jennings, but should at least take solace that they were in the running for someone they needed the perfect pitch for, and seemingly made it.
