Sherrone Moore was fired by the Michigan Wolverines on Wednesday after two full seasons as the team's head football coach, after a university investigation into Moore that found he was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Dan Wetzel and Adam Schefter.
"U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately," University of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement. "Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior."
Later on Wednesday, just hours after he was fired, news broke that Moore was arrested and in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail in Michigan as a suspect of an alleged assault, according to Thamel and Wetzel.
After this came out, Moore's mugshot was released.

According to a statement released by the Pittsfield police, officers responded at 4:10 p.m. ET "for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault. ... A suspect in this case was taken into custody. This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community."
Moore, who has served as Michigan's head coach for one game in 2023 before being hired full-time for the 2024 season, had an 18-8 record with the Wolverines.
This was the first head coaching job in college after years as an assistant at several universities, including being the offensive coordinator for Michigan.
Manuel's statement said that Biff Poggi has been named the team's interim head coach, effective immediately.
After a 9-3 regular season in 2025, the No. 18 Michigan Wolverines missed the College Football Playoff but are set to take on the No. 13 Texas Longhorns in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on New Year's Eve.
