Utah is one of the top contenders in the Big 12, sitting at 7-2. The Utes came in 13th in the first College Football Playoff rankings of 2025. They’re in a prime position to make their first playoff appearance and win the conference. Utah’s success is thanks in large part to having the best tackle duo in college football. One of their two elite offensive tackles is Spencer Fano, who is arguably the best offensive lineman in the 2026 class. Fano emerged as an elite tackle in 2024 and is following up with another strong campaign this fall. He is among the top prospects in this class, but will he be a franchise player in the NFL?

2026 NFL Draft: Spencer Fano Scouting Report

Measurables

Height- 6-foot-6

Weight- 308 pounds

Background

Fano was a four-star recruit and the seventh-ranked offensive tackle in the Class of 2023. He committed to play for Kyle Whittingham and the Utes. It didn’t take much time for Fano to see the field, making 12 starts as a true freshman, with 11 being at left tackle. While Fano spent most of 2023 as a blindside blocker, he moved over to right tackle in 2024. He started all 12 games and was named an AP Second-Team All-American. Fano posted the highest PFF grade for a tackle as a sophomore at 92.6. In 2025, Fano remained an elite right tackle, posting a grade over 80 in both run and pass blocking.

Strengths

The first thing that is evident when watching Fano is his movement ability. He moves incredibly well for a tackle, reaching the second level of the defense quickly as a run blocker. His run blocking is as good as any tackle in the country, routinely displacing defenders and creating space for his running backs. Fano also works great as a pulling blocker, as he can use his quick feet to get across the line and pick up blocks. His run blocking gets the most attention, but his pass blocking is also a strength. He excels at mirroring pass rushers, and his hand placement is impressive. Fano has the technique of an NFL veteran and is arguably the most well-rounded tackle in this class.

Weaknesses

While Fano checks most of the boxes teams are looking for in a franchise tackle, he isn’t a perfect prospect. The most notable concern he has is his frame. Fano measures in at 308 pounds, which is certainly on the lighter end for a tackle at the next level. His lighter frame can leave him vulnerable against bull rushes from NFL edge rushers.

Overview

Offensive tackles are a premium position in the NFL Draft. The best of the best tend to hear their name called early in the first round. Fano is widely viewed as the best tackle in this class, and there’s a strong chance he’s the first selected. His combination of elite run blocking and strong technique as a pass blocker should translate to being a Pro Bowl-caliber lineman in the NFL. While his weight is on the lower end for his position, his traits should give him a high floor. Fano can fit in any offense, but he is best suited for a zone-run scheme that prioritizes quick movement from its tackles. He will likely be a top-ten pick in 2026 and is an excellent fit for the Giants, who need a franchise right tackle to line up across from Andrew Thomas.
