Starting Oregon Cornerback Hints at Return with Four-Letter Message
© Abigail Dollins / USA TODAY NETWORK

Four-star cornerback Jahlil Florence started nine games for the Ducks last year before injuring his knee in a loss to Washington. He alarmed Oregon fans last week with a cryptic social media message that hinted at a departure, posting to X, "business is business."

That fueled speculation that he might leave for the transfer portal, but just an hour ago he seemed to provide a rebuttal to that vague, suggestive message. Florence posted a picture of himself coming out of the tunnel at Autzen Stadium arm-in-arm with Dan Lanning, the two pointing at the camera with a thumbs-up emoji in the left-hand corner.

Immediately after the thumbs up came the now-familiar four-letter acronym, f.e.b.u., which, within the Oregon culture, stands for (Forget) Everybody But Us. It's a message Lanning frequently uses in meetings and locker room pep talks to remind his team that outside noise and opinions don't matter. It's an expression of ultimate commitment to unity and team goals.

While it's not an overt declaration that he's staying in Eugene, it's hard to interpret it as anything else. Florence has been spotted at practice in full uniform over the last couple of weeks and seems closer to full availability. It really looks like he intends to remain a Duck.

After missing the first 13 games of this season he'll be able to use a redshirt year and play as a redshirt sophomore in 2025. Playoff games don't count against the four-game limit, so there's a chance he could be used during Oregon's drive to a national championship if needed.

In 2023 the 6-1, 190 sophomore from Lincoln High School in San Diego had 27 tackles, a sack and an interception.
