The Texas Longhorns have already added five-star pass-rusher Richard Wesley, are trending to bring in four-star Jamarion Carlton, and they're still working their magic. One more five-star pass-rusher, Trenton Henderson, has Steve Sarkisian's Longhorns in his final three teams heading into his upcoming announcement.

But is Sarkisian and the Longhorns being realistic, greedy, or opportunistic? That's the question insiders, fans, and even the program are looking forward to finding out. The elite Pensacola, Florida, edge defender is trending to stay in state, but Texas has a chance.

Blake Alderman of On3 explained why he has Texas as the team least-likely to bring in Henderson.

The Longhorns have done well this summer and are known for crashing the party on a recruitment... A team can never have too many front-seven defenders, but we hear Texas would likely be done at the position if they can add Carlton to their class. Texas has courted some other targets at the edge position, including Henderson, so their board is still fairly deep. Texas has become a team to watch anytime they are on the short list for a mutual target, but according to network sources, Henderson could be on the outside looking in for now.

It's a tough sell for any prospect that you'd be the third key addition at a position that has a tough time giving more than 600 snaps a year to that many players. Plus, Henderson would be on the same timeline as his peers in the class.

Colin Simmons will still be around in 2026 as well, so that'd likely be a redshirt season for one of these top recruits. Maybe that's not Henderson, who could be the best of these three prospects, but he doesn't need to take that risk at Texas.

Instead, the Longhorns can play with house money. Maybe they add another body to the unit in the class, but spending their NIL wad on Henderson no longer makes a ton of sense.
