Deion Sanders once again showed why his players rally behind him, this time with a simple but heartfelt gesture at Colorado’s Pro Day. In a moment that could’ve easily turned awkward, Sanders instead turned it into something memorable for linebacker Reggie Hughes.
During the drills, Hughes reportedly had a deal with his coach: hit a specific time in the 40-yard dash, and he’d earn a reward. But when he fell short of the mark, Sanders didn’t let the moment define him. Instead, he owned the situation with humor, posting “I LOST THAT BET” alongside the clip.
What stood out, though, was what came next. Sanders revealed he had planned to gift Hughes a fishing rod, something he had even brought to the event. Despite losing the bet, the Colorado head coach made it clear the promise still stood. “I still love ya and you’re still getting the fishing rods. We family man!” he wrote.
That message reflects the culture Sanders has tried to build since arriving in Boulder — one rooted in accountability and loyalty. Known as Coach Prime, he has consistently emphasized relationships over results, especially when it comes to guiding players toward the next level.
However, not every athlete is the same. Recently, an ex-Colorado player found himself in hot water after discussing the culture he experienced there.
Ever since he joined LSU, Lane Kiffin has been on the lookout for talented athletes. Recently, the Tigers signed Jordan Seaton. Shortly after leaving Colorado, Seaton issued a statement about his training experience at LSU and how it differs from that in Colorado. While it wasn’t an attack on Deion Sanders specifically, Colorado fans surely saw it as one.
“When I left Colorado, I feel like I was at a good point, but I feel like coming here, the transition from how I eat to how we work out here, you know, is just kind of different. My decision to come here was just based off it just means more, you know. It’s just different here,” Seaton said.

"Being here, it just means more. Being here is different from how we train to how we work. When it comes to work, thats what this place is about" https://t.co/6G7YcKhhyI pic.twitter.com/MSyCysTRFB
Seaton faced significant criticism and was called out by fans. Evidently, the contrast that he described between the two teams was enough to kickstart a debate on social media.
