Tar Heels Secure Talented Siblings From Transfer Portal

Former Texas A&M and LSU quarterback Max Johnson committed to the UNC football program a few weeks ago. Now, his brother and receiving target as an Aggie, tight end Jake Johnson, has joined him. Their father is former 17-year NFL veteran, Super Bowl XXXVII champion, and Florida State signal caller Brad Johnson.

Jake Johnson visited Chapel Hill this past weekend. It's also worth noting that the 6-foot-6, 240-pound former four-star recruit out of Oconee County High School (Ga.) held an offer from the Tar Heels as a prep.

On Monday, he announced his pledge to UNC via the following post on social media:

As a sophomore at Texas A&M this year, Jake Johnson saw action in all 12 regular season outings, hauling in 24 receptions for 235 yards and four touchdowns. Last year, he played five games, catching only one pass for two yards.

Thus far, UNC football head coach Mack Brown and his gang have reeled in only one transfer outside of the Johnson brothers. That other prize is another SEC product, a two-time national champion in former Georgia offensive lineman Austin Blaske, who revealed his pledge last week.

Meanwhile, the Tar Heel staff has seen 13 of its players enter the transfer portal, including a four-year contributor at tight end in Kamari Morales, who has since committed to Boston College.
