TCU Football: Week Five Killer Frogs Player of the Game
USA TODAY Sports

TCU's 24-21 home loss to West Virginia on Saturday was arguably the worst loss of the Sonny Dykes era, not necessarily because of the outcome itself but more so because of the way the game played out.

You may think this is crazy, because while Dykes hasn't lost much during his time in Fort Worth, all of the losses are memorable. The Big 12 Championship game, the National Championship, and this year's opener against a fresh Colorado team led by Deion Sanders were the three losses the Dykes-led Frogs endured before Saturday. And as we all remember, some of these were pretty ugly.

But this week's loss to West Virginia tops them all for me. TCU was in complete control of this game at halftime, leading 21-14 before falling flat on its face in the third quarter and practically giving the game away to a mediocre Mountaineers squad.

The sad nature in which the Frogs fell makes choosing a recipient of this weekly honor tough, because nobody really stuck out. Chandler Morris has an argument to win this award based on statistics, but I feel very weird giving it to him because the second-half offense was laughably bad. That may not have been his fault, but I just don't feel good about giving it to him.

Emani Bailey was good but not great, rushing 19 times for just 55 yards, his worst performance of the year. The defense had some good performances, but nobody really jumped out at me.

So this week, I am going with receiver JP Richardson. Richardson got the game going in the best way possible for the Frogs after catching a slant from Morris and taking it 59 yards to the house on TCU's fourth offensive play. He finished the game with only three catches and 87 yards, so production outside of that first catch was not great, but it was a great play that got fans and spectators excited to watch immediately. Richardson's 87 yards was his season high, and the long touchdown was his first of the year.

This week's edition of 'KillerFrogs Player of the Game' is boring, but that is deserved after the bad loss to West Virginia. Hopefully next week, I will have something better to talk about.
