The Tennessee Vols continue to chip away at 2026 five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys.
Keys, 6-foot-3/180 lbs from Hattiesburg, MS, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 wide receiver in the nation.
The Mississippi native has been committed to the LSU Tigers since March, but that hasn't stopped Tennessee (along with other programs) from trying to flip the five-star wide receiver.
Tennessee hosted Keys on an official visit last month. According to multiple reports, that visit went extremely well for the Volunteers.
For now, it's unclear when Keys plans to make a "final decision" (this is a battle that likely won't be settled until the early signing period begins in December).
On3's Chad Simmons provided the latest update in battle for Keys on Thursday.
"Tristen Keys, man, he's a five-star receiver, committed to LSU," said Simmons. "He's been to Tennessee probably four, five, or six times. Took an [official visit] there over the summer. I keep hearing from people, if you're a betting guy, take the field over LSU in the end for Tristen Keys. We know LSU is going to work really hard. And they're going to have to, to keep him in this class through December and get him signed. But Tennessee is definitely one to watch for Tristen Keys as well."
Because this battle is expected to continue into December, there's one specific thing that could really help the Vols land Keys.
If Tennessee's young wide receivers (Mike Matthews, Braylon Staley, Travis Smith, etc) have a big season in 2025, it would go a long way toward easing concerns that Keys may have about how wide receivers fit into Josh Heupel's offense (Tennessee hasn't had a 1,000 yard wide receiver since Jalin Hyatt in 2022).
