Tennessee Vols are an early contender for elite 2025 defender
Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Tennessee Vols an early contender for a 2025 four-star linebacker from Texas.

Kelvion Riggins, 6-foot/205 lbs from Forney, TX, broke down some of the schools showing the most interest and Tennessee was one of those programs.

Tennessee was one of the first programs to reach out to Riggins.

"They were the first major Division I, SEC team to talk to me, and we’ve been talking since my freshman year," said Riggins to On3 this week. "It’s the same staff and it’s been awesome.”

Georgia, Baylor, TCU, Ohio State, and Michigan are also in the mix early for Riggins, who is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 25 linebacker in the nation and the No. 34 player in the state of Texas.

It sounds like the staff continuity that Tennessee's enjoyed the last several seasons under Josh Heupel is something that stands out to the talented linebacker.

There's still a long way to go in this battle, which will really heat up as the 2024 recruiting cycle comes to a close. For now, it sounds like the Vols are in a good spot for Riggins. But the spring and the summer will be the important months as Riggins' recruitment unfolds.

Tennessee currently has four players committed to its 2025 recruiting class.
