For the second straight year, the Tennessee Vols are attempting to flip a five-star wide receiver from another SEC program.

Last year, the Vols flipped 2026 five-star wide receiver TK Keys from the LSU Tigers.

This year, Tennessee is trying to flip 2027 five-star wide receiver Easton Royal from the Texas Longhorns.

Royal, 5-11/200 pounds from New Orleans, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 9 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. He’s also rated as the top player in the state of Louisiana.

Easton Royal is set to visit Tennessee this weekend

According to On3's Sam Spiegelman, Royal is scheduled to begin a "multi-day visit" at Tennessee on Friday.

"The Volunteers are one of a handful of SEC contenders aiming to move the 5-star prospect off his early declaration to Texas, along with LSU, Florida and Ole Miss," noted Spiegelman. "Tennessee is a team with a strong track record of landing elite receivers under Josh Heupel."

The Vols have been aggressive in their pursuit of Royal for the last several months.

“Tennessee has refused to stop recruiting Royal,” wrote Spiegelman in January.

Flipping Royal would be quite a win for the Volunteers, but it won't be easy. Texas is going to do all it can to hold on to the talented wide receiver. And LSU looms large as the in-state school (we know that Lane Kiffin will do whatever it takes to land a top recruit).

This weekend's visit could go a long way in Tennessee ultimately coming out on top in this recruiting battle.
