Tennessee Vols have reportedly reached out to a transfer RB who rushed for 1,400 yards in 2023
Jordan Prather-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Vols appear to be in the market for a transfer running back.

Tennessee will lean on junior running back Dylan Sampson as their starter in 2024. Beyond Sampson, however, the Vols don't have much experience at the running back position.

Add in the injury to sophomore Cam Seldon, the program's assumed No. 2 running back option in 2024, and it makes the need for a transfer running back in Knoxville a bit more critical (it's unclear if Seldon will be good to go for the start of the 2024 season).

Earlier this week, it was reported that Oregon State transfer running back Damien Martinez was set to take a visit to Tennessee this weekend. But that visit is no longer in the works according to multiple reports.

On Thursday, On3's Pete Nakos reported that Tennessee is among the programs that's made "some type of contact" with Louisville running back Peny Boone.

Nakos noted that Boone "wants to play in the SEC".

Boone, who is listed at 6-foot-1/230 lbs, is a former four-star recruit who signed with Maryland out of high school. He transferred to Toledo after two years with the Terrapins. Earlier this offseason, Boone transferred to Louisville, but he reportedly decided to re-enter the NCAA transfer portal this week.

The Detroit native rushed for 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns last season at Toledo. Boone also caught 15 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown.

Boone re-entered the transfer portal after going through spring practice at Louisville.

Ole Miss and Kentucky, along with programs like Miami, Nebraska, and Virginia Tech, are among the schools that have also reached out to Boone according to Nakos.
