Texas A&M Eyeing 3-Star Quarterback Recruit Kaeden Johnson

Though Marcel Reed hasn't been given the accolades he deserves in SEC rankings, his starting quarterback position for Texas A&M isn't locked down.

During the 2024 season, the Tennessee native threw for 1,864 yards on 147 passes and completed 15 touchdown passes.

As for other current Aggies, sophomore Myles O'Neill led his side of the spring game to a 19-7 victory. Reed found more success in the passing game than on the ground with 18 completions for 213 yards, but could not generate enough scoring drives.

Class of 2026 4-star quarterback commit Helaman Casuga will also put pressure on Reed to pull together a well-rounded game under center. As a sophomore, Casuga put up 4,145 passing yards and 34 touchdown completions.

But head coach Mike Elko isn't finished fine tuning his quarterback group.

As the Aggies search for another recruit, a 3-star quarterback out of Missouri City, Texas - also the home of Miami Dolphins' running back and former Aggie De'Von Achane - has hopped on their radar.

Class of 2026 quarterback Kaeden Johnson is listed at No. 59 in his position and No. 150 in Texas, according to 247 Composite rankings. The 3-star recruit visited Texas A&M on June 12.

In the 2024 season, he threw for 2,109 yards and 25 touchdown completions with a 60 percent passing rate. He also rushed for 571 yards and six touchdowns.

For Reed to secure his spot, he needs to improve from the pocket and as a decision-maker. Especially if Johnson commits to Texas A&M, the quarterback competition only heats up down the line.
