There is no program more ready, better equipped, better funded, and better able to handle the new world of college football than Texas A&M.
All the Aggies have to do is start winning more.
The “Texas A&M is the program that does the least with the most” thing has been done to death, particularly by me over the last 25 years, but this time the pivot into true greatness feels for real.

But seriously, one double-digit win season since 1998 is inexcusable.
Missouri has enjoyed two of those in the last two years. South Carolina would’ve had one last year if it didn’t fall for the Bret Bielema troll job in the bowl loss to Illinois. Kentucky won ten games in 2021, Florida got there in 2019, and don’t even start with Alabama, LSU, and Georgia.
Texas A&M has won 28 games over the last four seasons. Texas has won 25 in the last two.
But again, more than ever, everything is there. If SMU could use its alumni base and structure to get to the College Football Playoff, and if Texas Tech could dominate the portal like it did this offseason, then Texas A&M should and must be able to take things to a whole new level when it comes to outspending, outworking, and out-everything everyone else.
It has the coach in Mike Elko, who seems like the right guy at the right job at the right time. This year’s team has the pieces in place to build around, and it got a few transfers for key spots to fill in the gaps. And it doesn’t have to play Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, or Ole Miss this season.
Don’t dog last year. It was the first season under Elko, and yeah, it’s easy to hammer on the defensive meltdowns in November and in the Las Vegas Bowl loss to USC.
And yes, it had the puck on its stick with a chance to play for the SEC title, and missed when the offense couldn’t do a thing in the loss to Texas. But Texas A&M won eight games for the first time in three seasons.
It’s about to win a lot more. Finally.
