College football is special in so many ways, but injuries remain a terrible part of the game.

Longhorns defensive end Colton Vasek was on track to make huge strides in a more expanded role in 2025. However, he'll now face a much tougher path back to the football field.

According to a report by 247 Sports' Chip Brown, Vasek will undergo shoulder surgery on Monday in order to repair a torn labrum.

The sophomore rising star had earned high praise from the Texas coaching staff, showcasing his potential early in the season. Despite dealing with nagging shoulder and hip injuries that limited his effectiveness in the final stretch, Vasek still managed to record a pair of sacks in his first true taste of college football.

A three-star recruit out of high school, Vasek was a human wrecking ball during his senior season as he recorded a whopping 71 tackles to go along with a disrupting 14 sacks.

With the loss of DE Barryn Sorrell, who has moved on to the NFL, there's hope that Vasek can make a full recovery before the start of the 2025 season. As Texas attempts another try at a national championship in 2025, the 'Horns will need all hands on deck moving forward.
