Despite a brutal start to the game, Arch Manning had a chance to lead No. 1 Texas on a drive to tie No. 3 Ohio State on the Longhorns' final possession of the game.
Unfortunately for Manning, a six-play drive would end on downs after pressure forced the sophomore quarterback to throw to Jack Endries two yards short of the sticks at the OSU 47-yard line. The failure to convert on fourth down sealed a 14-7 win for the Buckeyes.
The fourth-down play encapsulated Manning's day against Ohio State. He struggled with pressure, unable to make throws with consistent accuracy or use his legs to keep plays alive and push the ball downfield.
Following the game, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters that he felt the expectations for Manning were too high heading into this first game as a full-time starter.
"The expectations were out of control on the outside, but I’d say let’s finish the book before we judge it," Sarkisian said via CJ Vogel of On Texas Football. "This is one chapter, and we have a long season to play."

Manning entered the game having the best odds to win the Heisman Trophy, but his campaign took a dive after a first half where he went 5-of-10 passing for 26 yards.
Manning had a better second half after he got the first interception of the season out of the way. He finished with 17-of-30 passing for 170 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Sarkisian was pleased with how Manning progressed in the second half of the game. He believes Texas has a good football team after coming within a possession of the defending national champions in front of a loud and very scarlet crowd of 107,524 fans at Ohio Stadium on Saturday.
The hype train won't end for Manning, but he will have a chance to catch his breath before playing No. 15 Florida on Oct. 4 to begin the SEC schedule for Texas. The Longhorns play San Jose St., UTEP and Sam Houston in September.
Manning should pad his stats and gain confidence against those three teams.
